Carolyn Pepper has been appointed vice provost and dean of the University of Wyoming’s School of Graduate Education, following almost a year serving in the role on an interim basis. The university’s Board of Trustees approved the appointment on April 15, with the position becoming effective May 1.

The announcement marks a significant leadership change for graduate education at UW, highlighting Pepper’s extensive experience and longstanding involvement with the institution.

Interim Provost Anne Alexander said, “Dr. Pepper brings a rare combination of deep institutional knowledge, scholarly excellence and a long-standing commitment to graduate education at the University of Wyoming. This appointment reflects both her deep experience and the trust she has built across campus.” Alexander added, “She cares deeply about our students, our faculty and the quality of our graduate programs, and that shows in everything she does. I’m thrilled to have her in this role and excited for the continued momentum she will bring to graduate education at UW.”

Pepper has worked at UW for 25 years in various roles including associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; head of the Department of Psychology; director of UW’s Psychology Clinic; director of the clinical psychology doctoral training program; as well as serving on UW’s Graduate Council—two years as its chair.

Her academic background includes earning a Ph.D. and master’s degree from Stony Brook University (State University of New York) along with a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University. Over her career, Pepper has supervised 19 Ph.D. students to completion, guided 18 M.A./M.S students through graduation, is currently supervising five graduate students, authored or co-authored more than 70 refereed publications, and is licensed as a psychologist in Wyoming.

The university expects that under Pepper’s leadership there will be continued progress in strengthening its graduate programs.
