Darin D. Smith has been sworn in as the new United States Attorney for the District of Wyoming. The oath of office was administered by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Kelly H. Rankin on Monday, following his appointment as interim U.S. Attorney by U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Wyoming is tasked with representing the federal government in nearly all litigation involving the United States within the district. This includes criminal prosecutions for violations of federal law, civil lawsuits involving the government, and efforts to collect judgments and restitution for victims and taxpayers.

The office also oversees programs aimed at increasing public safety throughout Wyoming, such as Project Safe Childhood, Operation Take Back America, and a Victim Witness Program that works to ensure victims of federal crimes and their families are treated with fairness and respect.

Smith was elected to represent District 6 in the Wyoming State Senate in November 2024. He has practiced law in Wyoming since 2000 and is the founding member of the Smith Group Law Office. In addition to his legal career, Smith has worked with organizations including the Family Research Council.

He earned both his undergraduate degree (B.S., 1996) and law degree (J.D., 2000) from the University of Wyoming. During his time at university, he was recognized with Honorable Mention Academic All-American honors while competing on the wrestling team.

“I am honored to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming and thank Attorney General Bondi for placing her trust in me. It is a privilege to lead this great office, and I look forward to working with our federal, state, and local partners to protect the public and defend the interests of the United States,” said U.S. Attorney Darin D. Smith.
