Shawn Richard Flett, 38, from Casper, Wyoming, has been sentenced to 34 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to court documents, the incident occurred on October 2, 2024, when the Casper Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance involving Flett. During their investigation, law enforcement discovered that Flett had hidden a firearm in his apartment and was prohibited from possessing it due to his status as a convicted felon. Flett admitted that he received the firearm as payment for a debt.

The investigation was conducted by the Casper Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paige Hammer prosecuted the case. A complaint against Flett was filed on February 4. He waived indictment and pleaded guilty on April 15. The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl in Casper on July 8 under Case No. 24-00062.
