Kiley Reisner is in a five-way tie for first place after shooting a 4-under 68 during the second round of the Bobcat Desert Classic, according to an April 14 update from Goodyear, Arizona. Her performance helped move the Wyoming Cowgirls golf team from seventh to fifth place in the 13-team tournament at the Golf Club of Estrella.
The tournament serves as an important test ahead of the Mountain West Championships scheduled for later this month. The Cowgirls’ improved standing reflects their preparation and competitiveness going into their final event before postseason play.
Reisner, who was named Mountain West co-golfer and co-freshman of the week, is joined by her sister Kira Reisner, who shot a 1-under 71 and is tied for eighth at even par. Kiley previously won last month’s Thunderbird Classic and set a University of Wyoming record for lowest event score last week. Elle Higgins and Meghan Vogt also improved their scores by two strokes each in Tuesday’s round.
“Kiley and Kira’s play was terrific and exciting,” said head coach Josey Stender. “They both had good game plans and stuck to them.” Stender also said, “Today was a much-improved quality rebound round. We putted more confidently and it showed in the number of birdies we made.”
Wyoming posted an even-par team score of 288 on Tuesday—a twelve-shot improvement over their opening round—while Seattle leads overall with a total score of 578, followed by host Montana State with 582.
The final round will determine whether Kiley Reisner can secure another individual title as she competes against North Dakota State’s Avery Bartels, Cal Baptist’s Pusanisa Ekkantrong, and Seattle teammates Zoe Rubichon and Blayne Brown.
