Lane Foard, a wrestler from the University of Wyoming, finished fifth at the 2026 U.S. Open, according to an April 27 announcement. The event took place in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Foard competed in the 79-kilogram freestyle category and recorded a 6-2 record during the tournament. He reached the semifinals but lost to Ryan Burton of Virginia Tech by a score of 2-1. After another loss in the consolation semifinal, Foard secured his fifth-place finish by defeating Chris Crawford from Indiana with a technical fall, winning 10-0 in just over two minutes.

This result marks Foard’s second time placing fifth at the U.S. Open; he achieved the same position last year as well. Other University of Wyoming wrestlers also participated in various weight classes and styles at this year’s competition. Isaiah Harrison narrowly missed out on reaching the podium after posting a strong performance with five wins and two losses in the 57-kilogram freestyle division.

Additional team members who competed included Antonio Avila (70 kg), Westen Hoffschneider (79 kg), Owen Hull (79 kg), Bradlee Farrer (79 kg), Gunner Lopez (74 kg), and Dom Wilson who entered both freestyle and Greco-Roman events across multiple weight categories.

The results reflect continued success for Wyoming athletes on a national stage as they look forward to future competitions.
