Senators Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming and Mike Crapo of Idaho have secured a provision in the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill that eliminates certain taxes under the National Firearms Act for gun owners. The measure removes the $200 tax on suppressors, as well as short-barreled rifles and shotguns.
“I’m pleased that my legislation to remove the Depression-era $200 tax on suppressors, as well as short-barreled rifles and shotguns, was included in the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill,” said Lummis. “This will allow more law-abiding Wyoming gun owners to protect their hearing while exercising their Constitutional rights. I will never stop fighting to cut taxes and ensure all Americans can fully enjoy their Second Amendment rights.”
The change is expected to impact Wyoming gun owners by reducing costs associated with purchasing these items, which had previously required payment of a federal tax first imposed during the Great Depression.
