Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) has issued a statement criticizing the National Education Association’s (NEA) decision to end its relationship with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). The NEA, which is the largest labor union in the United States representing public school educators, cut ties with the ADL due to disagreements over the organization’s support for Israel.
In her statement, Lummis said, “I find it deeply troubling that the National Education Association (NEA) has chosen to sever ties with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an organization dedicated to fighting antisemitism, discrimination, and hate crimes across America. At a time when we’re witnessing alarming rises in antisemitic incidents nationwide, our educational institutions should be strengthening – not weakening – their partnerships with organizations committed to protecting Jewish Americans and combating hatred. The NEA should be reminding educators and students alike that Israel was the victim of an unprovoked terrorist attack by Hamas, and that antisemitism has no place in our educational system.”
The ADL works to combat hate and promote fair treatment for all citizens. Recent years have seen increased reports of antisemitic incidents in schools and communities across the country.
