Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso spoke on March 17 about the SAVE America Act, emphasizing the need for stricter voting regulations. Barrasso said that a significant number of illegal immigrants have entered the country during President Joe Biden’s administration and while Democrats controlled Congress.

Barrasso argued that only U.S. citizens should be allowed to vote in American elections and called for mandatory photo identification at polling stations. “Ten million illegal immigrants flooded into our country while Joe Biden was president and the Democrats were in charge in the United States Senate and House,” Barrasso said.

He continued, “And now the Democrats want those same illegal immigrants to have an impact on the elections in the United States. I believe only citizens of the United States should be allowed to vote in American elections. I believe you should have to present a photo identification card in order to vote.”

Barrasso compared voting requirements to other activities that require identification, stating, “It’s common sense. You need to present a photo ID to buy a beer, to board a plane, and to do so many other things that are part of American life. Why not to vote?” He added that most Americans support these measures: “The great number of American people agree completely with this – that you should have to have a photo ID and be a citizen in order to vote.”

According to Barrasso, the SAVE America Act aims to ensure secure elections that reflect the views of American citizens. He also criticized Democratic lawmakers for opposing voter identification laws: “You have the Democrats in this chamber who are going to come to the Floor, and each and every one of them is going to stand with the far-left – the extreme members of their party – who oppose voter identification with a photo ID.”

Barrasso concluded by saying, “We’re going to put every one of them on the record so that everyone in America knows that Republicans support voter ID, and Democrats are the party of open borders and illegal voters.”
