Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said on Mar. 10 that American energy dominance is key to reducing energy prices and ensuring national strength, safety, and prosperity. Barrasso called for the Senate to pass his Pay Less at the Pump Act, which would repeal a $12 billion tax on crude oil enacted in 2022.
Barrasso said that Wyoming plays a central role in U.S. energy production and credited Republican policies for making America the world’s top oil producer. He emphasized that increased domestic production has reduced reliance on Middle Eastern oil supplies.
“Wyoming is America’s energy breadbasket. We are no longer utterly dependent on the Middle East for energy, as we were in the past. This is because of Republican policies to unleash American energy. America is now the number one producer of oil in the world,” Barrasso said.
Addressing recent tensions with Iran, Barrasso stated: “After 47 years of terrorism, torture, and tyranny, Iran’s murderous leadership is dead. Iran’s missiles, launchers, and production sites are severely damaged.” He added that missile attacks from Iran have decreased by 90 percent since recent operations began and noted that more than fifty Iranian warships have been sunk.
Barrasso also discussed efforts by President Trump to stabilize global energy markets by providing risk insurance for oil tankers in the region and deploying U.S. Navy escorts if necessary. He compared these actions to measures taken during President Ronald Reagan’s administration.
In conclusion, Barrasso urged Congress to act quickly: “My bill would lower prices at the pump and lead to more American energy production. It’s good for Wyoming, good for working families, and good for our entire country.”
