Town of Jackson recently issued the following announcement.
Jackson’s Town Council and Teton County’s Board of County Commissioners voted to include Specific Purpose Excise Tax (SPET) initiatives on November 8’s election ballot for possible capital projects funded through tax dollars. The Council and Commission also agreed to consider potential projects from both government departments and the community at large.
Community entities wishing to be considered for placement on the SPET Ballot must submit applications by April 18 at 12:00pm. The ultimate decision about what projects will be included on the ballot will be made by the Town Council and County Commission.
The application is available by CLICKING HERE for a PDF, or a Word Document version is available by emailing the Town Clerk (see email below). It includes a project description, projected costs and their basis, possible effects of inflation, project impact, social or cultural benefits, alignment with the Comp Plan, and various other questions. Once the application period closes, the Town Council and County Commission will utilize a thorough, transparent process to determine which projects will be placed on the ballot and voted on by the community.
The process will include a question-and-answer session for applicants and the community, an open discussion between the two elected boards, aggregation of ranking by Councilmembers and Commissioners, creation of a list of finalists, discussion of finalists and ballot language, and the Adoption of a ballot resolution at the Joint Information Meeting (JIM) on Monday, July 11.
Applications must be submitted to Town Clerk, Riley Taylor, via email: rtaylor@jacksonwy.gov by 12:00pm on Monday, April 18. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
