With a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for the City of Buffalo, City officials reminded City residents and visitors to take precautions this afternoon as a mix of snow, sleet, rain, and possibly ice moves into the area. Commissioner of Public Works Nate Marton announced that City crews began pre-salting the main and secondary roadways earlier today.
Additionally, City officials announced that Buffalo City Hall will be closing at 4:00 PM today, to enable City employees to get home safely, reduce traffic congestion, and allow City work crews to continue to prepare for the forecasted weather conditions.
Also, several electronic signs have been activated and placed in strategic locations citywide to warn drivers and pedestrians of the potential for icy travel. The locations are as follows:
- Delaware Avenue at Route 198 in both directions
- I-190 at Virginia Street in both directions
- Elmwood Avenue at Route 5 (Skyway Entrance)
- South Park Avenue at Louisiana and Smith
- The Marquee at the Apollo Media Center on Jefferson Avenue
- Call 911 to report life-threatening situations
- To report a power outage, call National Grid at 1-800-867-5222
- Non-emergency issues, such as fallen trees, branches, downed traffic signals, and other storm debris, call 311
