WyoLotto has partnered with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) to mark March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month. The initiative, themed "Seeking Understanding," aims to highlight problem gambling as a serious mental health condition that is often misunderstood. The campaign encourages greater awareness and empathy, seeks to break down barriers to treatment, and supports individuals and families affected by gambling-related harm.
Problem gambling can disrupt or damage personal, family, or professional lives. It affects millions across the United States, with around 2.5 million adults meeting criteria for severe gambling problems and an additional 5-8 million experiencing mild to moderate issues.
The observance of Problem Gambling Awareness Month offers a platform for organizations nationwide to spotlight resources available for prevention, education, treatment, and recovery related to problem gambling.
Throughout the month, WyoLotto plans to share messages aimed at educating the community about problem gambling. Jon Clontz, CEO of WyoLotto, stated: “We believe it is a fundamental corporate responsibility of ours to promote responsible gambling and support problem gambling awareness and initiatives as much as possible to our players, retailers and Wyoming. Because we take this so seriously, last year we applied for and received the Responsible Gambling Verification Program through NCPG and NASPL (North American State and Provincial Lotteries).”
WyoLotto's Responsible Gambling Program includes strategies designed to educate players, retailers, and the public on responsible gambling practices.
Local media and community organizations are encouraged by WyoLotto to engage in discussions by sharing information about available resources. For more details on problem gambling awareness or if someone you know needs help with a gambling issue, resources such as the National Problem Gambling Helpline are available at 1-800-GAMBLER or www.1800gamblerchat.org.
