The University of Wyoming Violence Prevention Center will hold its inaugural “Cowbell Show” on April 22 at 7 p.m. in Pokes Pub, located in the Wyoming Union, according to an announcement made on April 20.

The event is part of Denim Day programming and aims to raise funds for the Violence Prevention Center’s initiatives. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend and participate in the show.

Admission is free, with QR codes available at the venue for those who wish to donate. Funds raised will support ongoing violence prevention workshops for students, faculty, and staff—including programs such as Green Dot—and cover topics like consent and boundaries. The center also organizes awareness events including Love Better Store, Denim Day, and Not Your Nana’s Bingo.

Inspired by “The Gong Show,” a television program from the 1970s, the Cowbell Show is described as an “un-talent” show that celebrates creativity and humor rather than polished performances. Participants can showcase a range of talents or unconventional acts in what organizers describe as a high-energy and inclusive environment.

Bob Vines, coordinator of the Violence Prevention Center, said: “Because it’s wonderfully awful, it will be a lot of fun. A lot of people can be involved, and it’s a unique way to celebrate people’s talents and non-talents.”

Registration remains open for performers interested in joining the lineup. For more information or to register as a performer, contact Vines at rvinesjr@uwyo.edu or call (307) 431-6756.
