The University of Wyoming and the Wyoming APEX Accelerator will host a webinar on April 27 to help small businesses, entrepreneurs, and startups learn about securing historically underutilized business zone (HUBZone) certifications for federal contracting opportunities.

The event aims to inform participants about how HUBZone certification can provide an advantage when competing for federal contracts. The federal government seeks to award three percent of all prime contracting dollars to businesses with this certification.

Scheduled from noon to 1 p.m., the webinar titled “From Rural to Ready: Understanding HUBZone Certification” will feature Tierra Price, procurement specialist at Wyoming APEX Accelerator, and Drew James, business development specialist at the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Wyoming district office. They will explain the details of the SBA’s HUBZone program and guide attendees through set-aside contracts, sole-source awards, increased marketplace visibility, residency and ownership requirements for 2026, as well as verification processes using www.certify.sba.gov.

Wyoming APEX Accelerator is part of the Wyoming Small Business Development Center Network housed at UW. It specializes in providing assistance with government contracting. The SBDC Network offers expertise for those considering starting or growing a business in Wyoming and receives support from state funds via the Wyoming Business Council along with partial funding through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. SBA.
