The Wyoming Cowboys continued their spring football preparations on April 14, entering the fourth week of drills at the Indoor Practice Facility. This marked the team’s tenth practice session as they work toward the annual Spring Game scheduled for April 25.

Spring training is an important period for evaluating players and developing team chemistry before the regular season. Head Coach Jay Sawvel said, “I thought the intent was good today coming off a scrimmage. I thought we had a really good practice overall and there was a lot of guys that showed up and made plays offensively which was a good thing and I think defensively we got a lot of really good work in the secondary. We need to and are looking forward to playing in front of people during the spring game.”

This season, Wyoming returns two leading defensive backs in nickel Desman Hearns and safety Jones Thomas. Hearns recorded 35 tackles last year along with two interceptions, five pass breakups—which tied for team lead—and forced two fumbles. Thomas led returning tacklers with 57 last season, also tying for team lead with two interceptions and recording four pass breakups.

Other returning players in these positions include Brooklyn Cheek, who started one game last year and has shown promise during spring drills after making eight tackles last season; Jaden DaCosta; Kaiden Kimble-Turner; Elvin Ampofo; Lafai Purcell; and Drew Jackson. New additions through transfers include Jett Vincent from Colorado State, Travis Franklin Jr. from Jacksonville State—who will play at nickel—and Da’Marion Brownlee from Missouri Southern.

Season ticket renewals for Cowboy football are now available online at www.gowyo.com/tickets or by logging into your account on that site.

As preparations continue toward the Spring Game later this month, coaches will further evaluate player progress while fans anticipate seeing new talent alongside returning starters.
