The Wyoming Cowgirls’ women’s tennis team was defeated by top-seeded San Diego State on April 23 in the quarterfinals of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Tennis Championship, ending their postseason run. The match took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the Aztecs secured a 4-0 victory over the Cowgirls.

This result concludes Wyoming’s season with an overall record of 12 wins and 11 losses. Despite the final score, several matches were closely contested. In doubles play, Eugenia Ceinos and Madlena Orlova won their match at No. 2 doubles with a score of 7-5. However, San Diego State clinched the Doubles Point after winning a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.

During singles competition, three Cowgirls—Silver Bijlsma at No. 2 singles, Violetta Borodina at No.3 singles and Eugenia Ceinos at No.6 singles—were all playing into third sets when their matches were abandoned following San Diego State’s clinching fourth point.

The final scores for completed singles matches included victories for San Diego State’s Chan over Kochelaevskaia (6-3, 6-3), Gjinaj over Orlova (6-2, 6-1), and Tirunelveli over Abriola (6-3, 2-6, 6-2). Several other matches remained unfinished as per tournament rules once the outcome was decided.

With this loss in the quarterfinals to top-seeded opposition, Wyoming wraps up its competitive season just above .500.
