Wyoming Cowgirl Head Women’s Basketball Coach Heather Ezell announced on April 23 the signing of Ophelia Powell, a transfer guard who began her collegiate basketball career at California State University, Bakersfield.

The addition of Powell is expected to strengthen the Cowgirls’ roster as she brings both international and collegiate experience. She will have three seasons of eligibility remaining with Wyoming.

Powell appeared in 21 games during the 2025-26 season for CSU Bakersfield. Originally from Melbourne, Australia, she graduated from St. Andrew’s College in Christchurch, New Zealand. During her high school career, she helped lead her team to a runner-up finish at the New Zealand Nationals three times and won four South Island Championships.

In addition to her school achievements, Powell played for the New Zealand National Team for three years and competed internationally with her AAU squad.

Coach Ezell said that bringing in an experienced player like Powell adds depth and talent to the team’s backcourt as they prepare for upcoming seasons.
