The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has released a special survey on inflation, highlighting its impact on small businesses across the United States. Tony Gagliardi, Wyoming state director for NFIB, emphasized the importance of state actions in response to these findings. "The unwritten result that stood out for me in the inflation survey is the importance of states not doing anything to harm themselves," he stated.
Gagliardi pointed out the significance of energy production to Wyoming's economy and expressed confidence in state lawmakers' understanding of necessary actions. He contrasted this with a neighboring state's legislative approach, which he described as being influenced by a progressive agenda that may be detrimental.
Key insights from the survey include 62% of small-business owners reporting substantial impacts from inflation, while 31% noted moderate effects. Nearly all respondents (99%) indicated that rising gas and fuel prices negatively affect their operations. Additionally, 77% identified increasing fuel costs as a major factor contributing to higher expenses.
Holly Wade, Executive Director of NFIB’s Research Center, commented on the situation: “Inflation is a new challenge for most small business owners. Inflation has reached levels not seen for the last 40 years and is dominating business decisions for small employers across the country."
To address these challenges, 86% of small employers are raising prices on goods or services, and 31% are incurring debt to manage increased costs.
